There are many situations that can make us worried, stressed or anxious. Stress/Anxiety can be a normal temporary response to a stressful or threatening event, but if on-going/excessive may become a health concern and should be followed up with your GP/Counsellor etc.

Depression, with anxiety, crying, feeling tired, not coping and poor concentration is a secret but very common illness, which will affect 20% of Australians. Stress, Illness and childbirth can lead to anxiety/ worrying and to depression – all of which can be very successfully treated. Refer to our “Depression” site / articles…i.e. Depression.Com.Au for lots of info.

Help is very close by also – in the form of: Online e-counselling, GP’s/Counsellors/ Lifeline/Kidsline/Headspace/Mensline/Psychologists/Psychiatrists/Beyond Blue/Black Dog etc., and other support websites such as: Depression.Com.Au & BeyondBlue.Com.Au to name a few. Don’t be embarrassed to tell someone…people genuinely care.
BeyondBlue.Com.Au has an Anxiety/Depression checklist(K10) under their “Facts” tab, for you to fill in and discuss with your Health Professional. Don’t stop until you find a support that works!

Taking “Time-Out/Relaxing/Switching Off” from the demands of Life is important. A simple technique of Breathing in a Deep Breath, holding for a short while (if comfortable) and breathing out, may be a very effective way to go. You could add in a simple thought/visualisation/sound on the ‘out breath’ letting all the stress/tension/worries go, as you exhale. Progressive muscle relaxation is another good technique, as is, listening to relaxing music.

Meditation is another form of stress/anxiety management. You Tube has lots of short relaxation/meditation videos to help with relaxing/meditating. These techniques can help reduce/eliminate stress, and the more often they are practised the easier they can become…the more the body/mind gets used to this. “Time Out” can also be a short walk/swim/massage/other relaxing activity/hobby etc…
